Description
Kit 2 contains a 65cm ditch blade with optional peening kit, sharpening stone, stone holder, and snath to suit – please select your snath size from the dropdown list. If you require a size that is not listed please contact us
The Austrian Fux ash snath (handle) has fully adjustable handles to suit the user; if looked after it should see many decades of service. At Caring for Gods Acre the conservation volunteers put boiled linseed oil on them annually to help look after the wood. The snath comes with handles, a ‘D’ clamp to attach the blade, a wedge, allen key for ‘D’ clamp and notes on setting it up.
Size 2 snaths (150cm) are designed for users of 5′-5’10”.
Size 3 snaths (160cm) are designed for users of 5’8″-6’4″.
The scythe kits come with a choice of the above snaths and blades and can be purchased with the optional peening kit for cold forging the edge of the blade (around every 6 hours of use). The enables the blade to gain and hold a better edge for cutting. All kits will have a smooth sharpening stone of natural stone and a plastic stone holster to hang on your belt (containing water). The scythes also come with a Fux scythe setup guide.
The Styria 65cm ditch blade is a bit of an all-rounder, a multipurpose blade long enough to cover the ground in an open meadow but still able to deal with rough ground and tight spaces. It is tough enough for bracken, strong weeds, brambles and smaller hedge suckers and has the stone point at the end that prevents damage from collisions with rocks/trees etc. This is the preferred blade for beginners.
The scythes are delivered by carrier and are packed in a sturdy cardboard box with a blade guard. PLEASE NOTE – delivery can take up to 5 days, although often arrives more quickly.
